Blanca Miñano: the economist leading Spain's beauty tech
by BelénShare
An economist by training, a founder by conviction. This is how Blanca Miñano built SKINVITY into one of Spain's reference brands in beauty tech for home use, told largely in her own words.
When El Mundo introduced her as "the economist leading Spain's cosmetic technology sector", Blanca Miñano smiled. For years, "economist" and "cosmetics" would have felt like two worlds that never touched. Today, that unlikely combination is exactly what defines her, and what defines SKINVITY.
From financial risk to beauty tech
Blanca studied Economics and started out in banking, in financial risk, before moving into digital transformation at an insurance company, where she had her first contact with the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Nothing in that path suggested she would end up building a cosmetic technology brand.
The turning point came by chance. On a trip, a friend who lived in Shanghai had a self-care device in her suitcase. Easy to use, fast, effective.
"That's what sparked my interest in technology applied to beauty at home."El Mundo
Something clicked. If this worked so well, why was almost no one in Spain talking about it? She started researching which brands existed, which ones mattered in Asia and the United States, markets that were years ahead. And she understood that the gap wasn't about product, it was about knowledge. What was missing was someone to bring beauty tech for home use properly explained, with safety and with the science up front.
That gap was the one she decided to fill, at the end of 2019, right as Covid was arriving. She remembers she couldn't sleep those first nights.
Built on her own steam
SKINVITY grew without funding rounds. Blanca reinvested every euro she earned distributing other brands into engineering and manufacturing her own devices. It wasn't the fastest route, but it was the one that let her never lose control or the coherence of the project.
Looking back, she believes her background wasn't a detour, but the best possible preparation. Entrepreneurship is about holding uncertainty, measuring risk and holding on when no one can promise you it will work. She learned that before selling a single device.
Explaining a category that didn't exist here
The hardest part was never competing in a crowded market. It was explaining what beauty tech for home use actually is.
"Skincare goes as far as it goes. Beauty tech takes you to another level."20minutos
As she explained to 20minutos, many people think beauty tech means a very advanced serum. It doesn't. It's real technology: it plugs in, it charges, it has a battery. What you used to find only in a clinic now fits into your routine and your home.
The proof isn't in the revenue, she says, but in the 40% of clients who try, trust and come back. That figure says more than any campaign.
Less is more, backed by evidence
When elEconomista asked about her skincare routine, expecting a list of twenty steps, her answer was the opposite: sunscreen, vitamin C, retinol and cleansing. Basics that get talked about a lot, but that many people still don't follow.
From there, technology adds to it.
"The LED mask is a staple that works and delivers results."elEconomista
In a lab test, the Silicone LED Mask showed a 30% improvement in firmness over eight weeks. And a reminder she always repeats: we obsess over the face and forget the body for most of the year, until the warm weather arrives. Skin is the largest organ we have, and it deserves attention twelve months a year, not only in spring. What SKINVITY is after is bringing beauty tech into the home, simplifying it and making it accessible, without giving up safety or scientific grounding, so that it fits into each woman's real life.
Women building technology for women
Blanca comes from a decade in finance, a traditionally male and highly competitive environment. There she learned something she still uses every day: perseverance and hard work translate into results. But in 2019 she looked ahead, didn't see herself reflected in what was coming, and decided to start from scratch.
"We're women building technology for women."La Razón
As she told La Razón, that perspective isn't an obstacle. It lets the team understand the problem better and design sharper solutions. She works in a sector where both investment and development are still mostly in the hands of men, building devices designed for a body, a set of routines and a reality that most of the people making those decisions don't live in first person.
For a long time she thought that was a disadvantage. Today she sees it the other way around. When you truly understand who your work is for, you stop guessing. It shows in very concrete things: in how a device has to fit a real schedule and not an ideal one, in what a woman asks herself before trusting a technology she'll use at home, in why evidence, price or simplicity carry a weight that doesn't always show up in a business plan written from the outside.
That conviction is also why recognition like being named by Emprendedores among the standout women entrepreneurs of the year matters to her, less for the recognition itself than for what it represents. When she sees lists like that, she doesn't only think about those who appear on them. She thinks about how few they still are, and how much an entire sector changes when the people designing the technology look like the people who are going to use it.
No professional development without personal development
What surprises Blanca most about these five years isn't the revenue or the international presence. It's her own growth.
"There's no professional development without personal development."La Razón
Every challenge, from building a team to going international, has come with a process of inner maturing. When the challenges arrive, she says, you feel ready because you've grown alongside the company.
We sometimes think we have to pick one lane and stay in it. Her experience says the opposite. And if there's one thing she's learned, it's that leading a category isn't about making more noise. It's about truly understanding the person in front of you.
