Hair removal: laser or intense pulsed light?

by Blanca

This time, we want to talk about the differences between laser and intense pulsed light, also known as IPL.
Both methods rely on light pulses to destroy hair follicles. The main difference lies in the type of light waves they emit.

On one hand, a laser emits a pure, monochromatic light wave that travels in a straight line. On the other hand, IPL emits a mixed light of many photons of different colors, causing it to travel in all directions. Each pulse with an IPL device covers a larger area, removing more hair.

IPL is better suited to different hair types and is appropriate for various skin tones; in other words, IPL can remove finer and lighter hair.

Finally, IPL is a virtually painless technique, making it more suitable for sensitive areas of the skin such as the face, groin, armpits, inner thighs, chest, or buttocks.

In summary, both methods are effective and permanently remove hair, but pulsed light is faster, more effective, and virtually painless.

Our Silk'n Infinity Premium Smooth device uses the IPL method, but it has gone a step further by using eHPL™ technology, which is a combination of the IPL method and galvanic current.

What is galvanic current?

To put it simply, it is a constant flow current, without changes in polarity and stronger than ionic and molecular forces.

Its main advantage is its ability to target hair more effectively. Energy is delivered through an electrode plate; when the electrode touches the skin, the pores open, allowing the optical energy to reach the hair follicle. This clear difference resolves our question of whether laser or pulsed light is the right choice.
