Why should we live with plants?

The World Health Organization has estimated that indoor air pollution causes 2 million deaths annually . By now, we are all aware that we are exposed to excessively high levels of pollution (some sources compare urban exposure to the equivalent of smoking around three cigarettes a day). We often associate this exposure with being outdoors, when in reality , we are also exposed to very high levels of pollution indoors . Today, we're sharing an effective solution to improve the air quality in our homes: living with plants.

Chemical pollution is one of the main threats. Where does this pollution come from? From the materials in our furniture, cleaning products, paints, and so on. This, combined with the fact that we don't always ventilate properly, makes air quality questionable. Keep reading and discover which species can help.

Living with plants: species recommended by NASA

In the 1990s, NASA conducted a study on air quality in space stations, which concluded with a report ( Clean Air Study ) stating that some houseplants, in addition to absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, clean the air of toxins .

This study is a good reason to fill our living spaces with plants, even the bedroom . According to Rita Gasalla, a specialist in healthy architecture, a plant can absorb at most 0.1% of the oxygen available in a room, less than another adult or a pet would .

NASA later revealed the names of five easy-to-find and highly effective air-purifying plants for indoor spaces: Pothos, Ficus, Snake Plant, Peace Lily, and Bamboo Palm . Run to your nearest florist!

According to Rita Gasalla, plants, in addition to improving air quality, enhance people's physical and emotional well-being through their presence and proximity, making them more creative, productive, and happy . In short, something as simple as having a plant nearby can significantly contribute to improving our physical and emotional well-being.
