Cosmetic technology at home: real answers to the questions you ask us most
by BelénShare
There are questions that come up again and again. Through our chat, by email, at events. Women with sensitive skin who aren't sure whether LED technology is right for them. Women who want firmer skin without invasive procedures. Women who spend hours on their feet or sitting at a desk and feel like their legs are made of lead by the end of the day.
This post exists to answer exactly that. No shortcuts, clinical basis, and the honesty that defines us.
"I'd like firmer skin without any invasive procedures. Are LED facial masks a real alternative?"
Yes. Red light at 630 nm directly activates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. With consistent use over 6 to 8 weeks, changes in firmness, elasticity and dermal density are measurable. These are not subjective perceptions — they are standard clinical parameters.
Skin firmness depends primarily on two proteins: collagen, which provides structure, and elastin, which provides elasticity. Both are produced by fibroblasts, dermal cells that are directly activated by red light at 630 nm through a process called photobiomodulation. This mechanism is documented in reference publications such as Photomedicine and Laser Surgery and the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology.

When do results appear?
| Week | What changes |
|---|---|
| 2–3 | Luminosity and more even skin tone |
| 4–5 | Smoother texture, less visible pores |
| 6–8 | Measurable improvements in firmness, elasticity and fine lines |
Photobiomodulation for the skin: real results, studies and how to get the most out of it
Photobiomodulation (PBM) is the process by which light activates cellular metabolism without generating heat or tissue damage. Only red and blue light have solid clinical evidence. The other colours on the market — green, yellow, orange, purple — are not scientifically validated.
What each wavelength does
| Wavelength | Colour | Depth | Validated clinical effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| 630 nm | Red | Dermis | Collagen and elastin synthesis · firmness · wrinkle reduction |
| 470 nm | Blue | Epidermis | Elimination of C. acnes · reduction of inflammatory acne |
| 830 nm | Near infrared | Deep dermis | Cell regeneration · vascularisation |
| 930 nm | Mid infrared | Subcutaneous tissue | Cellular energy · reparative response |
| 1072 nm | Deep infrared | Internal planes | Minimal tissue dispersion · structural penetration |
Protocol to get the most out of it
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Before | Full cleanse. No SPF, make-up or active ingredients on skin |
| During | Minimum 10 minutes · Start at medium intensity |
| After | Apply active serum, vitamin C or hyaluronic acid. Skin is at maximum receptivity |
| Avoid before | Retinol and AHAs. They increase superficial photosensitivity |
"I have reactive skin and mild rosacea. Can an LED mask help me, or are there risks I should know about?"
LED technology is safe for reactive skin and rosacea. Red and infrared light has documented anti-inflammatory properties. Blue light acts on the bacteria responsible for blemishes without affecting healthy surrounding tissue. It is a non-invasive, non-thermal technology compatible with both conditions.
| Wavelength | Reactive skin | Mild/moderate rosacea | Active rosacea flare-up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red light (630 nm) | ✅ Safe and beneficial | ✅ Anti-inflammatory | ✅ Safe and recommended |
| Infrared (830–1072 nm) | ✅ Safe | ✅ Safe | ✅ Safe and recommended |
| Blue light (470 nm) | ✅ Safe and recommended | ✅ Safe and recommended | ✅ Safe and recommended |
Recommended protocol for reactive skin
- Start at the lowest intensity level
- First sessions of 5 to 7 minutes before reaching the standard 10 minutes
- Use all available modes: red, infrared and blue light. At SKINVITY we recommend all of them for reactive skin and rosacea
- All intensities are safe. Adjust according to your preference and comfort
- Consult a dermatologist if you have severe rosacea, active medical treatment or any concerns
"My legs feel very heavy after work, especially in the evenings. Can a pneumatic compression device help?"
Yes. The feeling of heavy legs is caused by a sluggish lymphatic and venous system that accumulates fluid in the tissues. Pneumatic compression replicates the mechanism of manual lymphatic drainage through ascending sequential pressure. Relief is noticeable from the very first session. With regular use, it reduces fluid retention, improves circulation and relieves heaviness in a sustained way.
The lymphatic system has no pump of its own. It relies on muscle movement, breathing and, when neither is sufficient, external mechanical pressure to keep flowing. When it slows down, fluid accumulates in the tissues: the result is swelling, heaviness and that feeling of fatigue that doesn't go away even when you sit down.
What happens in the tissue during a pressotherapy session
| Level | What happens |
|---|---|
| Lymphatic system | Ascending pressure empties the lymphatic vessels and transports accumulated fluid towards the elimination lymph nodes |
| Circulatory system | Venous return reactivates. Immediate improvement in tissue oxygenation and reduction of heaviness |
| Connective tissue | Microcirculation activates. With regular use, skin gains firmness and cellulite loses definition |
| Muscular system | Rhythmic compression relieves accumulated tension and accelerates the elimination of metabolic waste |
When do results appear?
"I'm looking for a home pressotherapy device. Which is the best on the market in Spain right now?"
The most important criterion is not price or design. It is body coverage. A system that only covers the legs leaves the groin and abdominal lymph nodes untreated — the main lymphatic drainage points of the lower trunk. Without stimulating them, drainage remains incomplete.
What to look for before you buy
| Criterion | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Body coverage | Boots don't cover the groin or abdomen, where the main lower trunk lymph nodes are located |
| Number of chambers | 6 overlapping chambers guarantee continuous massage with no dead zones. Standard 4-chamber systems leave gaps |
| Pressure range | Gentle drainage: 30–60 mmHg. Intense muscle recovery: up to 260 mmHg |
| Programmable modes | Each goal requires a different compression pattern |
| Portability | Autonomous battery without cables allows use anywhere in the home |

PressTech's 6 modes by goal
| Mode | How it works | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|
| Sequential | Continuous ascending pressure with progressively inflated chambers | Fluid and toxin drainage. The reference mode for pure drainage sessions |
| Normal | Sequential activation from foot to torso, deflating the previous chamber | Relief of accumulated fatigue and immediate feeling of lightness |
| Double Wave | Chambers in groups of two, energy concentrated over larger areas | Boosting microcirculation and oxygenation of deep tissues |
| Full Pressure | Simultaneous activation and deactivation of all chambers | Deep muscle relaxation and reduction of systemic inflammation |
| Dual | Alternating combination of Sequential and Double Wave | Dynamic and versatile stimulation. Active recovery |
| Integral | Full cycle of the three main modes | The most complete protocol. Total regeneration from surface drainage to deep tension |
